In ELP2 we want to investigate the potential of less formal, personal online support tools where ownership is more likely to be vested in the users (ie learners). The project will explore these issues through the implementation of e-Portfolios, web logs (blogs) and other social software to support widening participation and developing skills essential to successful lifelong learning.


One of the web 2.0 tools which we have found to be extremely useful and which we use a lot is Ning. We are in the process of creating a guide to using Ning for tutors and staff. This is a draft at the moment but if you have any comments we are happy to receive them and make changes.

Transition and Progression

A large proportion of our work has been looking at using these support tools and 'web 2.0' tools to support transition into Higher Education for new students and to encourage progression for young people into Higher Education.

Working with the supporters / carers of young people

We have indentified that, when it comes to technology, we need to help those who work and support young people in using technology safely and in useful ways. We can also use technology as a means of providing peer support to mentors and carers working with young people.
