Cross Case Study Themes
There are a number of themes that have emerged from our work. These Include:
- The importance of support staff use and knowledge of social tools to support learners use of these tools.
- Students do use social tools but more often for personal and social use rather than learning or educational use - they may not be able to transfer their skills and knowledge into using such tools for formal learning.
- The use of social tools and online discussions requires students to have group working skills for it to be effective.
- Online participation varies due to a range of learner preferences. Those that do engage gain substantial benefits.
